Just Writing
Audio / Produced by The High CallingTranscript
Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Anne Tyler was waiting for her child after school. Another mother approached, and they began a pleasant conversation. Turning to leave, the other woman asked Anne, "Have you found work yet? Or are you still just writing?"
Incredible as that story sounds, it points to a truth I've learned across many years. No matter what we do, or how hard we work, many people will not understand us or what our lives are truly about.
This is Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge. What matters is not that others understand us. What matters is that we give our best—in whatever we do—in the high calling of our daily work.
God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.
